Viking Torchlit Procession, 6.30pm

Shetland’s Up Helly Aa Viking Jarl Squads will lead a torchlit procession through the streets of Portsoy, accompanied by Portsoy Pipe Band.

The procession will leave from the Tattie Sheds in Roseacre Street at 6.30pm, making its way across Shillinghill, Institute Street, and Links Road towards the Old Harbour, where a Viking galley, specially built by Banff Academy pupils and staff and boatbuilders from Cullen Sea School with support from Portsoy Men’s Shed, will be set alight by the burning torches.

Members of the public are invited to join the procession, it is free to join the procession and spectate.

Be a Torch Bearer

Join the Vikings and carry an authentic Up Helly Aa torch in the Viking Procession.

A limited number of torches are available to buy at a cost of £12 each from Ticketebo.

Torch bearers must be aged 16 years and over, ID may be requested before torches are issued.
