Portsoy 75 Club History

Portsoy 75 Club was established on Tuesday 22nd July 1975 by an interim committee, with the first full committee meeting taking place on the Tuesday 16th September 1975.

Founding members of the Club were Brian Milne, Alex Masson and Ronnie Runcie, who enlisted support from Ian Craig, Jack Adams, John Stewart and Roddy Drummond.  A public meeting was held in the Commercial Hotel, attracting interest from approximately 40 members of the community.  At the meeting, a motion was presented that the interim committee of the aforementioned people would operate the Club for the first year.

The aim of the Club was to provide a meeting place where people could meet informally, encourage friendship and an opportunity to exchange views and ideas.  Fundraising events would be held, the proceeds of which would be used for the general well being of the community.

John Stewart, local artist, was invited to design a logo for the 75 Club.  The 75 denotes the year of formation of the club, and also the 7 founding members. The 50 pence coin was introduced in 1975 and provided inspiration for the logo.

Since being established, the Club and its voluntary members through the years have supported numerous local groups, organisations and projects within the Portsoy and District area.
